Curve Q&A: Laurence Cox, Key Vendor Manager
Describe your job as if you were writing a ‘for dummies’ guide.
I look after cards and fulfilment. So I'm responsible for your card’s journey to you, from the moment you order it in the app to the second it drops through your letterbox 💌
How did you get to where you are now? (The highs, the lows and everything in between)
The highs: Launching our new card designs and helping people further their careers!
The lows: Having to let go of people. It’s not necessarily anyone’s fault, but sometimes people just aren’t suited to or enjoying their role and would be happier elsewhere. But making these decisions is never an enjoyable experience.
I’ve worn many different hats during my time at Curve, from First Line Squad Lead to Regulated Ops to Key Vendor Manager. It's been a hell of a journey and I can't wait to see what comes next!
What’s your proudest moment at Curve so far?
Helping people in my team nail their dream roles, putting them on the right career path.
What's the biggest problem fintech needs to solve right now?
Communication and honesty between its customers and themselves.
Describe Curve’s culture in one word.
Unique.
What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve received?
Be patient. Things can happen so quickly so you just never know what’s around the corner. That opportunity you’ve been waiting for could literally fall in your lap next week!
Do you have any advice for anyone struggling to find their dream job?
Try things that scare you or you know you will fail at. You'll learn more about yourself and maybe your dream job won’t turn out to be what you first thought it was.
Which 3 things do you need to be happy at work?
A good boss, supportive co-workers and the freedom to learn from your mistakes.
What makes working in fintech so exciting?
Every day is different. You never know what’s just two or three months away.
What’s your secret talent?
I'm an expert Mario Kart player! 🎮
